Session 2A: Driving Action Towards A Climate-positive World
2024 is a crucial year to invoke a "step-change" toward integrating efforts to tackle the climate crisis together. Collaboration, climate finance, a supportive policy environment and taking an ecosystem approach to climate action are needed if we are to advance efforts to combat the climate crisis.
Carbon markets, Nature-based Solutions (NbS), climate tech and locally driven efforts are some of the solutions that are not only necessary to help the world meet the Paris Agreement target of keeping below a 1.5 degree increase and adapt to an increasingly volatile climate, but also critical to deliver on the Global Biodiversity Framework. NbS for example can reduce vulnerability to climate disasters that especially affect marginalised people, while providing food security and jobs, and its key role was recognised at COP28.

Session 1: The Power of Health Innovation: Future-proofing Infectious Disease Management
Southeast Asia shares a disproportionate burden of disease and mortality, with an estimated 5.6 million lives lost per year to endemic and emerging communicable diseases, and even more to non-communicable diseases including mental health. Given population density and vulnerability to disasters, Southeast Asia is also at high risk from the effects of climate change on health.
This session will shed light on key infectious disease challenges in the region that are being compounded by climate change. Throughout, it will explore the step-change opportunities that innovation, research, and collaborative partnerships present in addressing these issues equitably, effectively and at scale.

Throughout, it will explore the step-change opportunities that innovation, research, and collaborative partnerships present in addressing these issues equitably, effectively and at scale.
A specific focus will be placed on looming and urgent disease threats facing the region over the coming decades: dengue which regional actors are already aware of and tackling, and anti-microbial resistance (AMR) which urgently requires attention by the region’s leaders.
